Zimbabwe: Town Clerk Acquitted

Harare — Chitungwiza  town clerk Mr David Govera, who was accused of conniving with a councillor to solicit and receive a $2,4 million bribe from a home seeker, has been found not guilty and acquitted of the charge.

Councillor Brighton Chirongwe and his relative Mr Archibald Hatibvi were also cleared of the same charges by presiding magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi on lack of incriminating evidence. Delivering Mr Govera's judgment, Mr Mutevedzi said throughout the complainant's testimony, (Ruth Chapendama), she never mentioned the town clerk.
