Nairobi — Does Meru's Council of Elders support President Kibaki? Any toddler can bet on it. For ethnic parochialism is the nature of our politics today. Yet I must congratulate Njuri Ncheke. For, clearly, it knows that support will not cut any ice unless it is positive.

Positive support has two aspects. One is the courage to admonish the subject of our support whenever we feel he is doing things that might ruin his own cause. The other is for us -- the supporters -- to refrain from such things.
