Eritrea: Workshop Discusses Sanitation And Safety of Imported Or Exported Items

Asmara — A workshop was held here in the capital from November 1 to 3 aimed at raising awareness on the sanitation and safety of animal and crop products that are either imported or exported.

The workshop organized by the Eritrean ministries of agriculture and health, as well as COMESA (Common Market for East and South Africa), focused on strengthening control mechanisms and ensuring safety of imported or exported goods among COMESA members states or other foreign trading parties.

Moreover, the participants of the workshop held discussions on the objectives and programs of the aforementioned sub-regional alliance, as well as on ways of encouraging trade activities and exchanging up-to-date information in regards to markets and other domains among member states.

Speaking at the closing session, the head of planning and statistics office in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Haile, stressed the significance of such workshops in facilitating the efforts the Ministry is making to boost production for export purpose.

About 90 representatives from the ministries of agriculture, health and fisheries, in addition to governmental and private institutions took part in the workshop.
