Kampala — THE Police have arrested a head teacher and two education officials, who allegedly engaged in examination malpractice during the just concluded Primary Leaving Examinations.
Asuman Lubega, 59, the headmaster of Ntarama Primary School in Lwamaggwa sub-county, Rakai district, was arrested on Monday for allowing a pupil to sit for the examinations using the names of a different candidate.
The southern Police commander, Andrew Sorowen, on Tuesday said Lubega hired a 16-year-old girl from another school to sit for the exams in the names of Shakira Nuwasha, who had registered at Ntarama but failed to turn up for the assessment. The Police said the imposter admitted committing the crime upon interrogation by the invigilators.
Lubega was arrested at Kakabajo Primary School in Lwamaggwa. His pupils sat for the exams at Kakabajo since their school lacked a UNEB centre.
"The invigilators called the Police, who arrested Lubega and took him to Lwamaggwa Police Post pending transfer to Kalisizo Police Station. He will appear in court soon," Sorowen said.
Others arrested were Sanyu Ndagire, an examination superviser and Enock Ahabwe, a scout of the Uganda National Examinations Board.
Sorowen said the two were picked up at Kapere Primary School in Lukaya, Masaka district on Tuesday. Ndagire was a teacher at Fatih Islamic Institute in Bukulula sub-county, while Ahabwe was teaching at Nganwa High School in Bushenyi district.
Ndagire was allegedly found solving mathematical questions for the pupils on the blackboard during the examination. She said it was the devil that tempted her into committing the act.
It is alleged that Ahabwe's signature was on the paper on which Ndagire was making the calculations. The duo were held at Masaka Police Station.
