Nigeria: Hajj 2007 - Fake Saudi Currency in Circulation

7 November 2007

Abuja — As preparations for the 2007 Hajj gather momentum, intending pilgrims have been alerted to the circulation of fake Saudi currency (riyals) in the country.

The Niger State director of the National Orientation Agency, Alh. Danladi Abdulhameed, warned intending pilgrims to desist from patronising conmen who were peddling fake Saudi currency.

Abdulhameed advised would-be pilgrims to liaise with the pilgrims welfare board for the exchange of their naira to riyals.

The director also called on the intending pilgrims to undergo all processes preparatory to the performance of Hajj, while urging them to attend workshops and seminars organised by the state pilgrims welfare board.

He then told them to avoid any thing that could tarnish the image of Nigeria while in the holyland.

In his words: "you should be good ambassadors of Nigeria, avoid any thing that could tarnish the image of the country. Remember also that Hajj is a religious duty, avoid excess luggages as this is not a business trip." Abdulhameed ended by assuring intending pilgrims of a hitch-free exercise, noting that" the state government has made elaborate arrangements for the comfort of the state pilgrims in the holyland."
