Massawa

Hirgigo Metal Works that has been set up in Massawa at a cost of 50 million Nakfa has gone operational. The plant is owned by Sembel Wood and Metal Works, according to Mr. Gerezgher Asmelash, manager of the newly set up plant.

The metal works is expected to manufacture 80 to 100 meters of different pipelines within a second and from 16 to 18 tones in one day. Out of the total production, 6 to 12 tones will be utilized inside the country, he said.

Noting that it would make due contribution in the ongoing national reconstruction endeavors, Mr. Gerezgher explained that 4 big cranes have already been put in place to facilitate its activities. He added that the manufactured items would be directed for both domestic and export purposes.

It is to be noted that Sembel Wood and Metal Works was established in 1985 at the time of the armed struggle and is currently manufacturing different wood and metal works through introducing advanced machineries and upgrading the skills of its employees. There are about 1,000 employees and 12 experts in the main plant, according to reports.
