The national assembly has approved Dr Yves Sahinguvu as the First Vice-President of the Republic replacing Dr Martin Nduwimana who resigned yesterday evening. Dr Martin Nduwimana has been a stumbling-block in the talks between Uprona political party and the head of state.
Dr Yves Sahinguvu is a novice in the Burundian political domain. He however marked points in July when he refused to join a cabinet team that was set up the head of state his Vice Presidents without prior consultations with his party. At that time he refused to be the Health Minister.
Dr. Sahinguvu has many competencies. He holds 3 different university degrees and fluently speaks 5 different languages: Kirundi, French, English, Swahili and Lingala
Dr Sahinguvu has been chosen by the President of the Republic among other contenders namely Pascasie Nkinahamira, Térence Sinunguruza, Angèle Niyuhire. He is backed by Aloys Rubuka.
Dr Yves Sahinguvu is a native of Bukeye commune in the province of Muramvya. He was approved by the senate unanimously and the national assembly for more than 80 percent. His approval was hailed by the main opposition parties represented in the national assembly. With this approval the blockage in the assembly is to end.

Activities in the national assembly have been slow since the beginning of the October session. Frodebu and Uprona parties were still waiting the implementation of the results of the talks with the head of state.
