Nigeria: First Lady Hajia Turai Hosts 37 Spouses of Ambassadors

Abuja — The First Lady of Nigeria, Hajia Turai Umar Yar'adua on November 9 played host to 37 spouses of heads of mission accredited to Nigeria with partnership in emancipation of women and children from the clutches of poverty, diseases and all forms of predicaments top on the agenda.

Hajia Turai who intimated them on her intending pet project "Women and Youths Empowerment Foundation" (WAYEF) said her interest would be, the empowerment of women and youths through education, health, socio-economic development, etc.

She lauds the Association of Heads of Mission Spouses (ASOHOMS) activities aimed at alleviating suffering of the needy in Nigeria noting that going by the humanitarian activities being carried out by ASOHOMS it is clear that the two projects have a lot in common.

The chairperson of the Group Mrs. Claire Losada, wife of the Spanish ambassador said the sole aim of the association is to help worthy causes such as orphanages, schools and hospitals within the FCT.

She said the association has been able to donate hospital equipment to rural clinics as well as drugs and household utilities to some orphanages.

The charity organization generates its funds through Food Festivals which show case international cuisines that is sold to the public, annual bazaar, ASOHOMS has also compiled and launched an International Cook Book which was also being sold to generate more funds for charity.

The association presented sample of the International Cook Book to the First Lady.
