Asmara — One of the potential national resources that occupy a center stage in the nation's economic growth is by far the breathtaking and unique social and natural landscape of Eritrea that would enhance the development of tourism.

Being located around the equatorial climatic zone, Eritrea's 124,000 square kilometers in area is endowed with a salubrious climatic condition where the sun shines all year long. In a few hours drive in Eritrea, one would enjoy the cool temperature in the highlands, mountainous places, thick forestry around the escarpments, and temperate climatic conditions, and while making way to the lowland plains, the climate and different geographic features throughout the way. These unique features, summed up with a 1000 km-long coast line, over 350 big and small islands with crystal clear unpolluted sea water has proven to be appropriate for scientific research and recreation. Moreover, different marine creatures and coral reefs testify the potential resource at hand to enhance the development of tourism in Eritrea .

On top of the aforementioned natural endowments, the existence of archeological sites and traces of artifacts are other key factors in the development of tourism. Having been one of the earliest civilizations in the region thousands of years ago, Eritrea is the land of historic and religious relics of the then existing civilizations, all the way from Nakfa to Kohaito and Metara, with vast sites for archeological studies and wonders. Ancient buildings constructed with ingenious talents and serious works of art during the Turkish and Italian colonial eras are also scattered all over the country, especially in the cities of Asmara, Massawa and Keren. Such natural and man-made beauties of Eritrea, supplemented with the hospitality of the people, cultural diversity, and unity based on this, adds more glamour to the country. If there is any place in the world where one would want to come across all the adventures and enjoy utmost freedom of mind, it is definitely Eritrea.

In order to fully utilize the aforementioned resources, proper allocation of skilled manpower, adequate infrastructure and other facilities are required. In line with this objective, and giving infrastructure top priority so as to facilitate socio-economic development, the Government of Eritrea is exerting utmost effort and is channeling the necessary resources towards reinforcing this program, which in turn has enabled Eritrea to secure a conducive environment for the development of the tourism industry. Hence, alongside the ongoing endeavors to develop infrastructure, communication networks and the like, government institutions, citizens and foreign investors should seize the opportunity of making good use of the available tourism potentials in the country.
