Bujumbura

The security on the road between Bujumbura and Rumonge has been disturbed by armed gangs over the last few days. Yesterday two deputies fell in an ambush laid by the national defence forces. More than 440,000 francs and mobile phones were looted.

This incident occurred near the place called â-šCamp Chinois". The commander of this camp has promised to carry out an investigation. A policeman who was with the deputies did not intervene because he was disarmed although the soldiers gave him back his weapon.

The army spokesman indicates that this ambush was laid by combatants of PALIPEHUTU-FNL, adding that national defence forces cannot ambush deputies. One person was killed in another wounded at Magara yesterday when a gang of robbers attacked a vehicle. The money and mobile phones of the occupants of the vehicle were looted.

Since the talks between the government of Burundi and FNL-PALIPEHUTU jammed insecurity on various roads has escalated.
