Zimbabwe: Deal With Backlogs in Rape Cases, Govt Urged

Harare — Children rights activists have called on Government to deal with backlogs in rape cases which they said were setting wrong precedents in communities.

Participants at the Child Protection and Rights workshop currently underway in Harare said Government should devise ways of ensuring that justice is done within a reasonable time, in rape cases. Contributing to the debate, Mr George Matende of Plan Zimbabwe said children do not feel protected when they see their cases spanning for years without completion and most of the suspects end up applying for refusal of further remand and get free before standing trial.
