Nigeria: Dangerous Driving Lands Man in the Dock

One Mr. Ubadigbo Charles of City Centre Plaza, Karu, Abuja, has been arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory Magistrate's Court sitting at Wuse Zone 6, Abuja on charges of dangerous driving.

The prosecutor, Alhassan Abdul accused the defendant for dangerous driving and failure to produce vehicle particulars to a police officer on demand which are contrary to section 18 and 314 of the Road Traffic Act.

That on November 5 2007, while the defendant was driving one Peugeot 406 Saloon car with regisration No. EH 861 ABJ along Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, he allegedly drove dangerously and recklessly, thereby causing accident by hitting one Starlet.

The Starlet has the Reg. No. XC 228 GWA. When the defendant allegedly hit the car at the back, two other vehicles were equally damaged with Reg. No. AA 659 NTT and AW 230 RBC.

During police investigation, according to the prosecutor, the accused failed to produce his dirver's licence, certificate of insurance and road worthiness when demanded.

Before Magistrate Alkali Bashiru, the accused, Ubadigbo Charles denied the allegation. Moreover, he received bail, with one surety to the tune of N100,000 .

The surety, according to the magistrate, must have a fixed address, resident within the jurisdiction of the magistrate's court, adding that the surety must have a means of livelihood and must provide his or her passport.
