Nairobi — Bigwigs who switched parties after first losing in primaries were on Sunday busy working to ensure their names appear on the ballot paper for the December 27 poll.
It emerged that a number of them had earlier acquired certificates from their new parties ahead of Friday nominations, just in case.
Others like assistant minister David Mwenje and controversial outgoing Kigumo MP Kihara Mwangi opted for little-known parties on losing in PNU primaries.
The Paul Muite-led Safina benefited from the fallout with a big number of losers from Central Kenya joining the party.
Lost in PNU
Former Cabinet minister Chris Murungaru who lost in PNU nominations in Kieni opted for Narc Kenya ticket. Mr Murungaru lost to Nairobi businessman Mathenge Warugongo.
Assistant minister Patrick Kariuki Muiruri, who lost in Gatundu North was said to have been given a direct Narc-K nomination.
Mr Muiruri, who was voted in the Ninth Parliament through Kanu, was trounced by a Nairobi-based engineer Mukoma Wakimani.
Mr Mwenje lost to former Nairobi mayor John Ndirangu and immediately moved to National Reform Congress party.
Outgoing Mwea MP Alfred Nderitu decamped to little-known Forum for Republican Party after losing. The party is led by a former assistant minister and veteran politician Mathews Adams Karauri.
Supporters of outgoing Government chief whip Norman Nyagah announced in Nairobi on Sunday that the former Kamukunji MP was headed to another party to be announced soon.
Outgoing Chepalungu MP John Koech moved to ODM-K after he lost his bid for an ODM ticket. The former minister for East African Co-operation dismissed the ODM nominations as a sham.
Outgoing MPs Joseph Kamotho (Mathioya), William Kariuki Mirugi (Nakuru Town), Viscount Kimathi (Lari), Moses Cheboi (Kuresoi) and assistant minister Samuel Moroto opted for Safina.
Also to move to Safina is a Mr Kimani Ngunjiri, an aspirant for Subukia seat in Nakuru who decamped from Narc Kenya. He lost in the PNU joint primaries.
Mr Moroto and Mr Cheboi lost in ODM nominations to newcomers.
Mr David Koros and Mr Joseph Langat the outgoing MPs for Eldoret South and Eldoret East respectively decamped to ODM-K after losing in ODM nominations.
The two MPs were initially in Kanu before joining ODM.
Also to decamp to Safina is a former State House Comptroller Matere Keriri and outgoing Nairobi deputy mayor Ferdinard Waititu.
Outgoing Juja MP William Kabogo went back to Sisi Kwa Sisi party after he lost to businessman George Thuo in PNU nominations.
Mr Maoka Maore opted for Kanu ticket after he lost in PNU primaries for Ntonyiri seat.
