Angola: Family Ministry Opens Gender, Development Seminar

19 November 2007

Luanda — An upgrading seminar on gender and development for personnel of the Ministry of Family and Women Promotion (Minfamu) opened Monday in Luanda during a session chaired by the national director for Promotion and Coordination, Margarida Ulissavo.

Organised by the National Department for Promotion and Coordination, the seminar will last five days and is part of the joint programme on gender that aims at upgrading the personnel admitted from 200 to 2007.

The programme is also directed to senior staff who have no training in gender from the Integrated Centre of Training and Professional Education (CIFEP) and others linked to the project on Hiv/Aids.

Margarida Ulissavo said on the occasion that the seminar comes in response to the need for continued upgrading of the sector's technicians on gender and development.

"This exercise aims at equipping participants with knowledge of the matter, in order for them to better integrate the gender issue in the policies and programmes of the Family Ministry", she stressed.
