FOUR years of waiting for success in a major knockout tournament finally came to an end for Dynamos in the City of Kings yesterday -- and not even the rain which pounded Barbourfields could spoil their moment of triumph.
Ironically, it was in this same stadium -- against the same opponents -- that DeMbare had last basked in the glory that comes with winning a major trophy in 2003.
Then, under the guidance of Zambian expatriate Keegan Mumba, they came to Fortress Barbourfields and destroyed Bosso 2-0 to take home the premier knockout tournament then -- the Zifa Unity Cup.
The memories of that afternoon were beginning to fade away into the horizon when Dynamos marched into Barbourfields yesterday for another shot at the biggest knockout tournament in the country.
Yesterday the good times came flooding back for the DeMbare family following their 2-1 triumph over Highlanders in a match that had to spill into extra-time before a winner emerged.
Murape Murape -- the diminutive bundle of energy who is a bastion of the fighting spirit that made Dynamos the big institution that it is now -- headed home the priceless winner in the first half of extra-time.
The goal broke the Bosso hearts after Methembe Ndlovu's men had gallantly fought back from a goal down with the outstanding Richard Choruma firing home a beauty to cancel out a rare goal from Sebastian Mutizirwa this season.
And just when skipper Justice Majabvi was about to be handed the trophy by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and Urban Development, Ignatius Chombo, the skies opened up.
But this could not stop the party.
Not on a day like this.
Not when the DeMbare family had waited for four years for such a special moment.
Not when they had invaded Bulawayo in their multitudes for this special occasion.
Not when the team they had just beaten -- in its own backyard -- was this powerhouse called Bosso that has certainly replaced them as the dominant football team in this country.
The disc jockey chose a hit song from Cephas Mashakada and as the music vibrated inside the stadium, it was just the cue that the Dynamos fans had wanted to celebrate their triumph in style.
At first it was just a trickle, the odd fan scaling the security wall to get onto the pitch to join his heroes in celebrations.
Then it became a flood of supporters and before long the field was full of Dynamos fans and the party was in full swing.
Still the rain kept coming down, but this didn't seem to matter at all as the fans danced, hugged each other and enjoyed this golden moment.
Some took their shirts off, others just rolled on the turf while others did not appear to know how to express their joy.
Still the music continued and some Dynamos fans decided it was time to invade the Soweto stand -- the bastion of the Bosso resistance at Barbourfields.
Only Bosso fans sit in Soweto but now, with the stand having been deserted when the final whistle blew, some Dynamos fans felt this was their time to march into Soweto.
Still the music continued -- each new song taking the party to a new level -- and the dancing could have continued way into the night had the police not decided that it was time to call off the party.
"I have seen a number of occasions when the supporters have celebrated and I think nothing will beat that atmosphere at the National Sports Stadium in 1998 when we played Hearts of Oak of Ghana and qualified for the final of the African Champions League," said Dynamos fan Josh "Jazzy Josh" Hozheri.
"But this was different and special and, given that we were not the dominant group of fans today, I think that it was very, very special."
The DeMbare fans in the capital will get a chance to celebrate with their heroes on Wednesday when the CBZ Cup is paraded along the streets of Harare.
Zifa chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya revealed last night that plans were at an advanced stage to have Dynamos parade the cup in the capital city.

"Most of their fans were not at Barbourfields to celebrate with them so we have put in place plans for a parade in Harare.
