Massawa — The 5th regular meeting of the Eritrean-Djiboutian Joint Committee that took place here November 15 to 17 concluded with the adoption of resolutions and recommendations.
Noting that the previously concluded agreements are being implemented as scheduled, the two sides mapped out future work program. Accordingly, they concluded a protocol agreement on controlling illegal trade activities, and enhance the on-going road construction activities contributing to further boost bilateral relations and cooperation.
Mrs. Tsigereda Woldegergish, Administrator of the Southern Red Sea region, and the Djiboutian Permanent Secretary of Internal Affairs, Mr. Omar Hassen, signed the protocol agreement.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Tsigereda noted that the latest meeting marks significant step forward as regards reinforcing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in general and the Eritrean Southern Red Sea region and the Abok and Tajura regions of Djibouti in particular.
Mr. Omar Hassen on his part stated the regular meetings of the joint committee play significant role in strengthening Eritrean-Djiboutian relations.
Major General Humed Karikare, Commander of the Eritrean Naval Force, and other Eritrean government officials handed souvenirs to the Djiboutian delegation during the signing of the protocol agreement.
In the course of their stay, members of the Djiboutian delegation visited tourist attraction sites in Semenawi Bahri, the Sembel Metal and Wood Works in the Hirgigo area and other plants in the region, as well as the College of Science and Marine Technology. In addition, they observed various development programs being undertaken in the port city within the framework of the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign.
