Eritrea: Members of Japanese Cycling Club Visiting Country

Members of the Japanese Cycling Club (JACC) who are currently visiting Eritrea said that the prevailing peace and stability in the country was beyond their expectation and that it could be taken as a model to other countries.

During their stay, members of the club that comprises renowned cyclists would visit Semienawi Bahri, Massawa, Foro and islands, as well as other historical sites.

The Eritrean Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Estifanos Afwerki informed ERINA via telephone that the visit is aimed at deepening the cyclists' acquaintance with Eritrea and its people, besides helping to strengthen the existing relations between the two peoples in the domains of trade and tourism.

A reception was organized here in Asmara in honor of the visiting members of the club, in which the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Amna Nurhusein, the Commissioner of Sports, Maj. General Romodan Awliyay, the Chairman of NUEYS, Mr. Sultan Seid, and others were present. The Chairman of the Eritrean National Cycling Federation, Mr. Tesfai Berhe, gave briefings on Eritrean history and the development of cycling in the country.

Indicating that there exist a number of similarities between the peoples of Eritrea and Japan, Mr. Tesfai noted that Eritrea is one of the top African countries in cycling race. A member of the club, Saichi Takiezawa, 85, said that they would highlight in different Japanese media outlets about the prevailing peace in Eritrea.
