Nigeria Football League chairman, Chief Oyuki Obaseki yesterday appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over alleged misappropriation of N42.5 million belonging to the NFL.

Apart from Chief Obaseki, five other key officers of the NFL Board being questioned on alleged financial recklessness include the Executive Secretary Mallam Salihu Abubakar, the accountant, Alhaji Abubakar Garba, the Internal Auditor, Stanley Ikechukwu, the secretary of the NFL tenders board, Samson Akhigbe and Chairman NFL tenders board, Alhaji Shehu Gusau.

Folu Olatimi, the resident Consultant, Media and Events at the ICPC in a statement yesterday said, "The Obaseki led Executive of the NFL were alleged to have embarked on spending spree without allowing the audit committee to have an input into the contract award.

"In specific terms, Chief Obaseki was alleged to have purchased an official car, a BMW series at N9 million without passing through the due process as well as bought an official car valued for the executive secretary of NFL.

"The NFL Chairman was also alleged to have purchased six KIA cars for N21 million at the rate of N3.5 million without due process", Folu Olatimi said, adding that the Commission is also looking into the alleged purchase of medical kits for football clubs valued at several thousands of naira without the knowledge of the board.

Olatimi also expressed that "The anti-graft body is also probing the rentage of a Guest House at Wuse, Abuja for N6 million for two years and the purchase of substitution board without the approval of the audit Committee led by Mr. Ray Nnaji.

"Chief Obaseki was accused of appointing key officials without due process and in sharp contrast to NFL rules and regulations", Olatimi said while confirming that the suspended NFL boss is being probed in connection with alleged fraud.

He also confirmed that the accountant and internal auditor have already made written statements to the Commission on the matter.
