Burundi: FNL Dissidents Out of Control

20 November 2007

Bujumbura — FNL dissidents stationed at the waiting area of Randa are out of control. These dissidents have abducted more than six persons, creating insecurity in the surrounding areas.

More than 1000 dissidents are stationed in this former farm. These FNL dissidents have not yet been disarmed and continue to intimidate the surrounding population. This dissidence in the FNL-PALIPEHUTU was created by the government of Burundi, the chairman of the regional initiative and the facilitation bureau after the leadership of FNL, trying to buy time and seeking fresh negotiations, walked out of the truce monitoring commission.

Although the facilitator, Charles Nqakula, indicated when he was trying to boost the activities of the truce monitoring commission and that the all FNL dissidents will be grouped at Randa, the government of Burundi has not able relocate them in one place.
