It is usually unimaginable yet true that even leaders exhibit emotional responses in fathoming grief.
And so, it was no surprise that the Liberian Chief Executive, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf remarked that the recent brazen killing of an expatriate manager of the Liberia Agricultural Company is "Unacceptable!"
Yes, the killing of an investor, who was poised to devise new job outlets for an impoverished people, in a country with an unemployment rate standing closer to three-quarters of the population, is undoubtedly unacceptable!
To unravel the seemingly descent into chaos, the President has ordered the top galaxy of authorities in the law enforcement and justice sectors to make the country safe for investment.
The Analyst examines the concerns of the President in this piece.
Pres. Johnson-Sirleaf has seriously agonized on the apparent reckless violence recently unleashed by individuals that she described as 'wishing to create unnecessary tension and terror in the country, with the objective to undermine efforts of the government to secure a peaceful and stable environment for all of its people and foreign residents'.
Pledging a thorough investigation, Madam Sirleaf told the law enforcers gathered before her that the perpetrators are doing what they have done in order to distract the attention of investors from the country and halt foreign investment in the country.
The President made these remarks as she briefed the Justice Ministry and other law enforcement agencies of the country about the unfortunate incidents that occurred on Saturday in Grand Bassa County.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf ordered in the strongest terms that the Justice authorities get to the bottom of the incident, in order to restore sanity, order and the rule of law in the area.
She then expressed deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased Belgian national, Bruno Michaels; to the Management and staff of the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) for the loss of a dear and young life of someone who has shown remarkable commitment to the improvement of the lives of the people of Grand Bassa.
For his life to be cut short in a barbaric manner is deeply regretted and totally unacceptable, the President intimated.
"We want to reassure the general public that the weekend incident will not go unpunished; the perpetrators are being rounded up already and will face the full weight of the law at the earliest," the President declared.
She also assured the Liberian people that these calculated attempts to frustrate government's efforts by instilling fear and insecurity among the people, and thereby discouraging private investment in the country will not succeed.
Pres. Johnson-Sirleaf further stated that the determination of her government to pursue the development agenda of the country remains unwavering.
Turning her attention to the recent disaster that affected the people of Bangladesh, from where a large contingent of peacekeepers are harnessing the peace of the country, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of that Asian country for the loss of more than two thousand lives as a result of devastating cyclone which hit the country last week.
"Our prayers go out to the bereaved families in Bangladesh as they mourn the loss of their loved ones," she eulogized.
According to the President, the government of Bangladesh has continued to play a leading role in peacekeeping efforts in the Liberia. She described the efforts of the peacekeepers of that country in Liberia as having gone beyond normal peace keeping duties by getting involved in other national development initiatives including agriculture and reconstruction of various road networks in the country.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf then offered prayers for the people of Bangladesh that as they undergo the difficult moment, Allah will grant them courage and fortitude to endure the tragedy.
In another development, the President's visit to the Middle East continues today with a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Ehud Olmert. The President has already held talks with President Shimon Perez and the Foreign Minister, during which she appealed for Israel to grant support to the Liberia's recovery process.
According to media people at the Executive Mansion, who are covering the visit, the meetings and discussions have thus far been very beneficial and successful for the two countries.

The president also reportedly said that she welcomed the decision by an Israeli Investment delegation to the country. It was also disclosed that the delegation may visit Liberia in January next year.
