The Minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, has called on African countries to patronize Nigeria's Satellite Communication Project (SAT 2).
He made the call at the 2007 International Tele-communication Union (ITU) conference held in Geneva, Switzerland.
A press statement made available to Daily Trust Monday and signed by the press secretary to the Minister, Okon Etim Bassey, described SAT 2 as one big investment by Nigeria that requires the support and patronage of fellow African countries for it to achieve its objectives.
The Minister, who paid a courtesy call to the new Secretary General of the ITU, Dr Hamadoun Toure, congratulated him for being the first African to be elected to the position as he briefed the DG on Nigeria's position on various issues including the FG's seven point agenda, vision 2020 and satellite communication project.
He assured the DG of Nigeria's readiness to sustain and strengthen the project for the benefit of Africa.
Responding, Dr Toure assured the minister of his support for Nigeria's aspiration and also congra-tulated the country for making Africa proud by launching SAT 1 and 2.
The minister also visited Bern, Swizerland to encou-rage Nigeria's delegation to the 2007 International Postal Union Conference.
The country's Post Mast-er General, Alhaji Ibrahim Mori Baba, was made the Finance Committee of the conference.
