Kenya: Nine Die in Morning Accident

Nairobi — Nine people died in an early morning accident between a matatu and a lorry on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.

The crash occurred near Kakuzi head offices at 9am. The dead included a five-year-old girl, five men and three women. Five other passengers were injured and are undergoing treatment at the Thika District Hospital. Witnesses and survivors accused the driver of reckless driving.

Head of Casualty at the hospital, Ms Irene Mwai, said seven people were received, but one died while undergoing treatment. Another one was treated and discharged.

Three weeks ago, another grisly accident between a lorry and a matatu occurred at the same place, killing seven people.
