THE UPDF handed over eight Congolese fugitives to DRC authorities on Monday in a brief function which took place at Lhubiriha border in Eastern DR Congo.

The fugitives, who had crossed into Uganda illegally were arrested with four sub machine guns.

Speaking at the hand over held at Lhubiriha the commanding officer 21st battalion Major Herbert Makanga, said some of the fugitives had come on a robbery scheme and others on a spy mission.

Maj. Makanga hailed the existing cooperation between the two countries on the borderline of Lhubira in Eastern DRC and Mpondwe on the Uganda side.

The military Intelligence officer, Mr Zephyrim Lwaba, in charge of the Lhubira border asked his Ugandan counterparts to continue with the cooperation and report of all the wrong elements on either side.

When asked whether Congo had done much in helping Uganda fight her enemies operating from the jungles of Eastern Congo, Lt. Kiconco said the cooperation between the two countries is good given the series of meetings they have held and the sharing of information.

However, he asked Congolese forces to step up efforts and flush Ugandan insurgents out of their country if they are to have lasting peace in the region.
