Hudet — Over 550 participants will attend the largest pastoralist gathering to take place in the Horn of Africa in Hudet, Ethiopia.
The assembly, to be held between November 28 and December 2, will bring together pastoralist representatives from northern Kenya, Djibouti, Somaliland and the international community.
According to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the assembly will discuss the humanitarian, development and livelihoods situation of the Addis Ababa region as well as the wider sub-region.
"This will be the biggest ever pastoralist gathering in the Horn of Africa," said Allistair Scott-Villiers, team leader for the gathering." It represents a remarkable and unique opportunity for pastoralists leaders to discuss critical issues that affect the lives of millions."
The forum is organized by UN OCHA Pastoralist Communication Initiative. It will coincide with the visit to the region of Sir John Holmes, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator and Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs.
