Harare — Pengaudzoke member Josphat Somanje - out of jail on $5 million bail for allegedly raping his tenant's 11-year-old daughter - is down with a serious leg infection.

The guitarist has not been featuring at Pengaudzoke's recent shows complaining of swollen legs and fever, which his brother Daiton said was critical. "Josphat has not been feeling well since he was released from prison. "He has been complaining about his legs, which are now swollen and we pray he will be back soon," he said.

"Josphat's illness comes as a major blow to the band because we were beginning to gel again as a band and I hope and pray everyday that he will recuperate on time. "At times we have to accept the reality of life when such misfortunes visit us and we ought to be strong and I think he will be all right soon because his services are still needed for the success of Pengaudzoke," added Daiton.

Josphat could not be contacted for a comment as Daiton insisted he was now the official spokesman on all family matters. Zimbabwe has over the years lost some of its finest musicians shortly after gaining their freedom from jail or while still serving their prison terms. One name that instantly comes into mind is Tineyi Chikupo who died in prison while serving his sentence.

Maungwe Brothers founding member Thomas Makion and Mukoma Ketai Muchawaya, who fronted Kasongo, died soon after serving their prison terms.
