Nigeria: Kaduna PDP Canvasses Support for Anyim As National Chairman

Kaduna — The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), yesterday in Kaduna, adopted a position on the issue of who becomes the next chairman of the party. The party, through its chairman, Alhaji Yaro Audi Makamma, stated that the votes of the entire Kaduna State delegates to the January 5th convention would be for former Senate president and national chairmanship aspirant of the party, Anyim Pius Anyim.

The state chairman of the party made the position known to newsmen, when Senator Anyim came to the state for campaign. Anyim had visited the state as part of his nationwide campaign tour for the forthcoming PDP convention.

His words: "Nigeria has adopted a single line position of transparency, integrity, honesty, accountability, probity, rule of law and constitutionalism in the current democratic dispensation. This means in clear terms, that the era of imposition is over and the people of Kaduna State before now had adopted a position on this issue of PDP chairmanship contest. And that position is that we are giving our votes 100 per cent to Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

"It is not only enough to assure him of our votes, but the people of Kaduna, according to our agelong tradition, will go all out to make sure that we get all other states to support Anyim, because he is a man of integrity. His tenure as Senate president is a record there for all to see. He was so prudent to such an extent that he applied the principles of due process, even before the federal government thought of introducing the policy."

Earlier, the PDP chairmanship aspirant, Senator Anyim, had paid a courtesy call on the governor of Kaduna State, Arch. Namadi Sambo in his office. The governor, who received Anyim and his entourage in company of the entire state executive council, extolled the virtues of the former Senate president as one of the best products of Nigeria's democracy.

"Anyim is a man among men. He has proved that he is one man that has the interest of this great country above any other thing. He is a man of honour and an ardent believer in the democratisation process of this country.

"In Kaduna, we are wise people and we will always do the wise thing. Kaduna State has always been known for doing the wise thing at all times, and on the 5th of January, we will as well, do the wise thing by voting for this wise man here".

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, yesterday played host to Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who was in the state to intimate them of his aspiration of becoming the next chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The deputy speaker of the House, who received Anyim and his entourage, stated that the House would do everything it can to deliver the Anyim candidature.

The deputy speaker noted that since Anyim is "one of our own, it is now incumbent on us to make sure that he scales through at the convention".
