The dynamics of the plastic arts movement in Angola is still very low, due to difficulties in the acquisition of artistic material, ateliers and other incentives, said Sunday to ANGOP, in Luanda, the secretary-general of the National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP), António Bastos.

According to António Bastos, the country has several talented artists, but with little artistic production, very few exhibitions and there is lack of financial means to carry out other activities or projects.

"Due to the difficulties they face, a high number of artists choose to do painting works and others in sculpture, since activities in areas like ceramics, engraving and weaving demand the existence of workshops and machinery, whose acquisition and maintenance costs are high", he stressed.

The artist, however, informed that UNAP is very much engaged in the recovery, at least, of the ceramics workshop, which is on a standstill for over ten years.

He regretted the fact that most of the plastic artists, who are still producing some works, carry out their activities in their own houses, which is not good for the dynamics that is needed in the country and it is also difficult for younger artists to get some experience.

Despite all this, António Bastos is confident about the future of plastic arts in Angola. He announced that UNAP has been making contacts with several institutions, for financing aimed at bringing greater dynamics into the plastic arts scene.

Meanwhile, the painter Don Sebas Cassule told ANGOP that the intended cultural dynamics, depends on a major interaction between the entrepreneurial sector and the artists, so there can be drafting of projects for regular exhibitions and sale of plastic art works.
