Sokoto — Sokoto state government has earmarked the sum of N2 billion for onward distribution to small and medium scale entrepreneurs and traders with the view to improving their businesses in the state.
State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, made this known at the weekend, while distributing 30,000 motorcycles on loan to civil servants and primary school teachers at the Government House Sokoto.
According to him, the money will be disbursed to small-scale enterprises and traders on loan devoid of any interest, pointing out that traders should form trade groups and unions so as to benefit from the interest free loan scheme.
He noted that the loan will go a long way in stimulating business activities in the state and also enhance trading activities of small scale entrepreneurs, who are in dire need of such facilities to expand their business.
Meanwhile, Wamakko has distributed 30,000 motor cycles to civil servants and primary school teachers in the state with the charge that they should rededicate themselves to duty.
He said the state government would issue out the motorcycles at the cost of N40,000 to workers, adding that N17,400 was subsidized for each unit which would have initially cost N57,4OO. "Thus, each beneficiary will therefore pay N1,666 per month for a period of 24 months.
"The motorcycles were given to workers at the cost of N40,000,thus, the Nigeria Labour Congress should ensure fair distribution of the motorcycles to the workers and all staff are entitled to benefit from the motorcycle loan as long as their monthly deduction falls within the range of one third of their monthly salary", Wamakko said.
He stated that the civil servants should endeavour to justify the reason for which they were given the motorcycles by reporting to their place of work promptly and urged them to show dedication in their assignments.
While appreciating the support of the civil servants to the present administration, Wamakko reiterated his committment and determination towards running a transparent government that will meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
