Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Chief Sunday Boloru-nduro Awoniyi, who was involved in a ghastly car accident along Abuja-Kaduna road last Monday, was yesterday flown out of the country to London for comprehensive medical treatment.
He was going to Kaduna to prepare for the ACF meeting scheduled to hold the following day (Tuesday).
Awoniyi had, immediately the accident happened, been rushed to a hospital around Doka Village, about 60 kilometres to Kaduna, before he was moved to another hospital in Kaduna.
Arrangements were made last Tuesday to move him down to the National Hospital, Abuja where he had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until yesterday when he was flown out.
Awoniyi was flown out in an Air Ambulance from Germany about 10.10 a.m. accompanied by two white doctors.
Former Police Affairs Minister, Major-General David Jemibewon and some of his immediate family members, including Architect Yomi Awoniyi, were at the Airport to bid him farewell.
Yomi also left aboard a British Airways (BA) flight yesterday morning for London to join his father.
THISDAY confirmed yesterday night that Awoniyi had arrived at a London Hospital, where prior arrangements had been concluded to admit him for comprehensive treatment.
He was received at the Heathrow Airport by some members of his immediate family resident in London.
The Aro of Mopa, who will be 76 years old on April 30 next year, had sustained what was described as minor injuries in the crash.
The Lexus Jeep, in which he was traveling with his driver and personal cook, had lost control in a bid by the driver to manouvre the Jeep from ramming into a J-5 Bus which had a tyre burst and veered into the fast lane right in front of the Jeep.
The Jeep driver, had in the process, lost control of the vehicle which somersaulted three times before coming to a halt. It was learnt that Awoniyi, the driver and the cook escaped with minor injuries from the Jeep which was a complete wreck in the aftermath of the crash.
THISDAY gathered that Awoniyi walked into the hospital at Doka by himself with little support by his driver after some good Samaritans came to their assistance.
He was said to have spoken with members of the family and friends who called on phone to inquire about his well-being after they were informed about the crash.
Secretary-General of the ACF, Col. Hamid Ali, had told THISDAY in a telephone interview that Awoniyi did not have any bruises on the body but was experiencing pains on his right shoulder and hand. A source said that he had also hit his head during the crash, an indication that he might have suffered some internal injuries.
He said x-ray and scan were done to determine the cause of the pains. He also said given his age, Awoniyi needed further and closer examination.
Last Tuesday, arrangements were made to move into the National Hospital for further medical observations and treatment. It was at the National Hospital that he was monitored until yesterday when it was confirmed that he had stabilized enough to embark on the six-hour flight to London.

Recall that Awoniyi had on March 12, last year, been attacked by armed men in his Abuja residence, in the heat of his anti-Third Term campaign, during which they inflicted injury on his head with the butt of their guns.
