Eritrea: Over 100 Villages Get Access to Potable Water Supply This Year

Asmara — More than 110,000 people now have access to drinking water thanks to the projects implemented by the Water Resources Department in collaboration with partners, stated Mr. Mebrahtu Eyasu, director general of the department. He indicated that different potable water supply projects have been implemented in 106 villages this year.

Mr. Mebrahtu pointed out that 48 projects have been implemented in the Southern region, 17 in the Anseba region, 9 in the Gash-Barka region, 16 in the Southern Red Sea region, 10 in the Central region and 6 the in Northern Red Sea region.

Noting that providing potable water supply in all parts of the country is given top priority, Mr. Mebrahtu indicated that at present 65% of the people in remote areas have access to clean water supply. He added that vigorous efforts are continuing towards fully meeting the people's demand in this regard.
