The Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate in Rivers State Mr. Tonye Princewill has denied allegations that he received N500 million as bribe from Governor Rotimi Amaechi before withdrawing his petition challenging the election of the governor in the April 14 general elections.

Media consultant to the AC candidate, Mr. Eze Chukwuemeka Eze in a statement yesterday in Port-Harcourt said the allegation of financial inducement against the AC candidate as contained in a media report by a local newspaper was an orchestrated attempt to ridicule and malign the integrity of Princewill.

Eze said the newspaper in its report further alleged that Princewill was now taking refuge at the Presidential Lodge inside the Government House, Port-Harcourt in order to escape the wrath of his supporters, adding that "to us, we see this publication as not only malicious but a concoction of falsehood that can only come out of a confused and jaundiced mind".

The media consultant wondered how the administration of Gov. Amaechi would give out a whooping N500m, when the same administration had publicly announced the precarious financial situation of the state following the huge funds expended by the Omehia administration.

Eze declared that Princewill not only has the support of all AC members in Rivers State to collaborate with the Amaechi administration in taking the state to new heights, but has the approval of former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the national leadership of the AC.

"The mere mention of N500m by the Weekly Star reporter as our entitlement for all our labour, struggle and efforts to establish AC as a party in Rivers State is to us insulting, disgusting, debasing, mortifying, atrocious and unfortunate.

"We've stated times without number that what we did in assisting Governor Amaechi to succeed was done without any condition attached and we're not the type that associates our services with our people with the hope of receiving mundane things in return", Eze added.

Similarly, the media consultant debunked insinuations that Princewill had been suspended by the party hierarchy in the state because of the alliance with Gov. Amaechi, emphasizing that "Princewill is still the AC leader in Rivers State and still has the overwhelming support of all members of AC within and outside the state for all his actions so far with Governor Amaechi.

"We will like to reiterate, for avoidance of doubt that we've no other state to call our own, except Rivers State and we've no apology to make to any person or group of persons in order to participate in any act that will move the state forward.

"Our support for Gov. Amaechi is total and no amount of treachery, blackmail and falsehood will stop this new strategy and union geared towards liberating the state from a clique that has held it spell-bound in poverty, these past unprogressive eight years.
