Lagos — Medical scientists have ingeniously developed a device that could be used in the treatment of ailments without the use of the conventional drugs. Depth-empulse is an electromagnetic device that heals four times faster than any known technology or drugs. Godwin Haruna writes
It is a novel device invented by Dr. Glenn Gordon, an American, as a curative therapy. Designed Electromagnetic Pulsed Therapy (DEPTH) has been found superior to drugs in the treatment of many conditions as diverse as arthritis, fractures, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and many others. According to Dr. Tony Didigu, an associate of Gordon in Nigeria, the device is the only professional electromagnetic fields therapy in the world that speeds up free radical neutralisation by antioxidants 100 times faster and affects tissue restoration and repair four times faster than any other known technology or drugs.
Didigu explained that the efficacy of DEPTH-empulse is due to its most effective electromagnetic fields with square wave and a rapid rate of change - rise to peak power over time from zero. He said the device also restores destabilised calcium balance in the cells and thus prevents massive mitochondrial production of damaging free radicals.
"DEPTH-empulse stimulates or up-regulates the synthesis of 150 classes of genes responsible for tissue restoration and repair, and the production of growth hormones, matrix proteins, new blood vessels, increased osteoblast population and collagen synthesis. This stimulated repair and restoration process involves all tissues particularly the brain tissue, which has been found to be very responsive to electromagnetic fields", he stated on the uses of the device.
The medical doctor said the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) have approved the device and the World Health Organisation has reviewed it worldwide and found no adverse effects. He added that American troops in Iraq have found it very useful for the treatment of all health conditions.
Didigu explains how it is used: "Position yourself comfortably, plug the connector from the power source into the Depth-Empulse, then apply the treatment zone containing the red guide lights or position on body while sitting in recliner chair to hold device into the area you wish to treat. You can hold DEPTH-empulse in a fixed position for the entire treatment if the area is small, or slowly move it back and forth if the area is large, for example, carpel tunnel or hip arthritis. When treating back or neck, you may option to lie on devise or position on body while sitting in recliner chair to hold device in place. Device may be attached to area of treatment with ace bandage and left to treat for prolonged periods. Assistance by another individual may be required at times for some treatment applications".
He stated that the American NASA has done a 4-year collaborative study on the efficacy of electromagnetic fields to stimulate growth and repair in mammalian tissues.
NASA stated in their conclusion: "The up-regulation of these genes is in no manner marginal (1.7-8.4 logs) with gene sites foe collagen production and growth the most actively stimulated.
"We have clearly demonstrated the bioelectric/biochemical potentiation of nerve stimulation and restoration in humans as a documented reality. The most effective electromagnetic field for repair of trauma was square wave with a rapid rate of change (dB/dt) which saw cell growth increased up to 4.0 times".
Didigu also explained the duration of the treatment to THISDAY: "We find 30-60 minute intervals 1-3 times per day most effective early in a treatment programme. After 3-4 days' treatments, can be decreased if pain has stopped. If pain continues consult a healthcare provider to establish the inflamed site more precisely. The two commonest causes of failure are; failure to use Empulse and treatment in the wrong location, especially with shoulders, sciatica, hips and low back pain".
He said one could use the device to treat through the cast or bandage dressing. He added that smoking decreases Empulse effect due to excessive free radicals present in cigarette smoke. Also, excessive coffee intake (2-3 pots daily) will also reduce the effectiveness of Empulse.
"Empulse makes it easier for healing antioxidants to neutralise dangerous and damaging free radicals by virtue of their mutual attraction to a magnetic field (known as paramagnetism). In their billions of years of accumulated wisdom, living tissues realise this is only half the battle and continue using PEMF to stimulate (up-regulate) classes of genes associated with tissue restoration and healing", Didigu noted.
He said the device should not be used in pregnancy or with a pace maker. Also, Didigu stated that it does not work in people with no antioxidant capacity and in those that consume two or more packets of cigarettes daily or drink three or more pots of coffee daily. He recommended it for Nigerian troops both at home and abroad.
