The Post Master General of Liberia, Minister Jackson E. Doe has disclosed that the establishment and officials opening of post offices in rural Liberia has been whole heartedly welcomed by rural dwellers in those regions where postal activities have been resumed.
The Post and Telecommunication Minister, at a news conference recently, said several rural dwellers are taking advantage of the pose offices established in their respective counties to communicate with relatives in Monrovia and across the country.
Mr. Doe said since the 15-years armed conflict that led to the closure of rural mailing offices communication broke down between people in rural parts and the cities.
He said they would explore every opportunity to ensure those post offices that have been established in Grand Bassa, Bomi, Bong, Grand Gedeh counties among others are given the necessary support so as to benefit the people in those areas.
Mr. Doe disclsed that the Universal Postal Union (UPU) through its Tanzania expert, Dr. Kassim Rashid Kiliza has begun a five weeks capacity building for staffs of that ministry in Monrovia.
The UPU facilitated Ministry of Postal Affairs employees' workshop which begun last week, the Liberian Post Master General Doe noted, is intended to help train and equip participants to put Liberia's postal system at international level.
UPU expert, Dr. Kassim Rashid Kiliza of Tanzania, said Liberia postal system has reached an internationally accepted standard and that any international group could now interact with at any time.
Dr. Kiliza indicated further that the UPU training will help staff of that ministry to learn not only about postal activities but to develop budget, prepare programs and proposals that will enhance the policy and growth for the empowerment of the postal system of Liberia.
