Nigeria: Cheruiyot to Run in Lagos Marathon

Boston and Chicago Marathon champion, Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya tops the list of over 47 elite international athletes who have registered for this year's Lagos International Half Mara-thon.

A spokesman of the Organi-sing Committee, Charles Ikoa-basi, told Trustsports yesterday that Cheruiyot who won the Boston Marathon in 2003, 2006 and 2007 also won the Chicago marathon in 2006.

"More that 47 elite interna-tional athletes have registered for the half marathon and they are big names which will make this year's edition remarkable," Ikoabasi said.

He said than other internatio-nal professionals registered for the event are Ivuti Patrick Mu-tuku, Chebor William Chebon, Kebenei Wilson Kiprotich and Kirong Duncan Kibet all from Kenya.

Also registered are Yonas Kifles, Yared Asmeron and Tes-fayohannes Mesfen from Eritrea. Among the women elite runners are Debela Berhane Adere, Ethiopia, Timbilili Alice Jemeli, Kenya and Magarsa Askale Tafa, Ethiopia.

Most of the athletes are sche-duled to arrive before December 6, 2007.
