28 November 2007

Kampala — Three people, including an LC1 chairman, have been arrested in connection with robbery of motorcycles in Mityana and Kiboga districts.

The Mityana district Police commander, Moses Otaala Obbo, said the trio were suspected to be part of a gang that has been terrorising the area, adding that one other key suspect was on the run. He identified the suspects as Siraje Njala, the Nakiragala LC1 chairman, Paul Kato of Nabiteete village and Isma Sserunkuuma of Nabwendo village, all in Kikandwa sub-county, Mityana. "They have been stealing bikes and selling them at lower prices. They change the number plates, cushions and other things," Otaala said.

He said motorcycle robberies had been on the increase in the district lately, with TVS and Baja models being the major targets. Obbo said the three men, to be prosecuted, were arrested with four motorcycles, which had forged number plates.
