Bujumbura

Two confederations of trade unions confirm that they will go on a three-day strike on Monday 3rd December 2007.

The CSB and COSYBU deplore that the government of Burundi did not implement their three important claims. These claims include the payment of the 34&percnt increase to the salaries of civil servants, the setting up of a dialog framework, and reviewed statutes of all civil servants. None of these three claims was implemented according to these confederations.

These two confederations have demanded all the civil servants to behave well during that period of strike. If this strike is carried out it will affect all the walks of life, for more than 30 trade unions form these syndicates.

These two confederations have announced their strike for several times, but it was continuously postponed. The recent appointment of the cabinet has contributed to the postponement. Now after two weeks the newly appointed cabinet met for the first time yesterday. This cabinet meeting that was aimed at showing domains of action of each minister and vice-minister shows its slowness in dealing with issues of national interests.
