The Uganda handball team was forced to employ all their tricks before seeing off a determined Burundi 29-28 in the ongoing Africa Zone Five under-25 men's tournament at Kasarani on Thursday.

Moses Akena put his side ahead after five seconds only for Alouim Bukundu to respond for Burundi. Uganda could have taken a commanding lead were it for Aime Vyibuka who was superb in the Burundi goal. Both teams kept on exchanging the lead, and Burundi led 15-14 at the breather.

On resumption, Burundi's Akena stretched the lead to 23-20, but Benard Oyeng reduced the deficit.

Being urged on by their coach, Uganda's Patrick Odora scored two goals in succession to level things. Uganda goalkeeper Vyibuka was called to task, denying Suleiman Laddu.

Burundi, who have managed only one point so far, took the driving seat again through Francis Sokororonza , only for Odora to reply.

But it was Calvin Mugatu who stole the show to seal victory for the East Africans, scoring the all-vital goal. Uganda's Benard Oyeng scored the highest goals, bagging 11, while Francis Sokoroza replying seven for Burundi.
