Takoradi — THE decision by the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Anthony Evans Amoah and his deputy, Mr. Kwasi Blay to convene a party meeting at Asankragwa to strategize on how to win the 2008 elections in the region has incurred the wrath of the regional executive of the party. This is because the two ministers failed to inform them about the meeting.
To show the minister and his deputy that they were in charge of the party in the region, the regional executives also called all District Chief Executives (DCEs) and other party members who had been invited to the meeting not to attend because they did not sanction it. This fiat from the regional executives led to the indefinite suspension of the proposed meeting.
Though this reporter learnt from party sources that it was the Hon. Anthony Amoah who instructed his deputy to write the letters to all DCEs and party executives at the various constituencies to convene the meeting, he denied the accusation when the Chronicle contacted him on phone. The disputed letter which was written on the letter head of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and dated 1ST November, 2007 and dully signed by Kwesi Blay, the deputy regional minister reads: 'On behalf of the regional minister, you are invited to attend a meeting scheduled for the venue and time herein indicated".
Hon. Anthony Evans Amoah told the Chronicle that he only asked his deputy to communicate verbally to all the parties involved about the intended meeting and that he did not ask him to put it into writing. "I did not ask him to write but I only asked him to communicate to constituency party executives and District Chief Executives to attend the party meeting", he stressed. The minister also contended that he informed Mr. Kojo Aquah, the regional organizer about the meeting. The later however denied the claim when the reporter contacted him.
Party sources that spoke to this reporter accused Mr. Kwesi Blay of trying to bring friction between the regional minister and the regional executives of the party. Mr. Kwasi Blay on his part denied any wrongdoing insisting that he was instructed by his boss to draft the invitation letters. "I have nothing against my boss and I don't want to believe he too has something against me".
Speaking in an interview with the Chronicle at his office in Sekondi Mr. Kwasi Blay did not see anything wrong with the meeting he and his boss were trying to convene to warrant the leakage of the information to the Chronicle.
"We are also occupying this seat here as party members so I see nothing wrong with organizing a party meeting which should be done by party executives. We were only trying to help", he said. Kwesi Blay however apologized for using the letterhead of the RCC to draft the letter.
When this reporter contacted the regional Chairman of the party, Nana Owusu Ankomah for his comment of the issue he asked, "How did you come by the letter and who gave it to you".
