Ghana: Gab Appeals for a Goal Ball Pitch

The Ghana Association for the Blind (GAB) has appealed for a support from the government and the public to construct a goal ball pitch.

The goal ball is a special sport designed for the blind and was initiated late September this year by GAB.

Six people who are blindfolded whether visually impaired or sighted with three in each court play this game.

The sports coordinator of GAB, Mr. Alexander Williams, explained that the goal ball is a comprehensive sport that GAB is rolling out for the blind and must be supported by the government and the public.

He said the goal ball is a game anticipated to let the blind feel that they also have the right to exercise and feel healthy and the right to be inclusive in everything that goes on in the society.

Mr. Williams said the visually impaired are capable of doing many things that people with sight can do if only they are supported to contribute to the success of the country.

The Director of GAB, Mr. Peter Obeng-Asamoah, commended government for all the support it has given to the association including the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

Nevertheless, he said the issue of employment and education remains their major hurdle and therefore call on government to let the blind be included in all developmental projects.

He pleaded that the blind should not only be dragged on board after projects have been initiated and implemented.
