During a press conference that she held today the civil service minister, Ms. Clotilde Niragira, called on all civil servants to continue working.

Minister Niragira says that all the demands of trade unions which have threatened to go on three-day strike that will start on Monday 3rd December, have been implemented. Civil servants will start to get the promised 34&percnt percent increase in salary by the month of January 2008 and this increase has been provided for in the 2008 annul budget.

Two confederations of trade unions, COSYBU and CSB, confirmed in a statement that was jointly signed today that they will go on strike on 3rd December. These confederations were strengthened by the decision to strike of the syndicate of workers of the University of Burundi, STUB.

The civil service minister is now faced with a serious situation. In past, she failed to put a stop to a strike in the Justice ministry that lasted for weeks. Her decision to block salaries to the justice agents was abrogated by the current Justice Minister.
