Next week will bring US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on a rare visit to Ethiopia where she will be meeting on the conflicts in Sudan and Somalia, according to the US State Department statement on Thursday.

This will be her third trip to sub-Saharan Africa since becoming secretary of state in 2005. She has previously been to Liberia, Senegal and Sudan. Another trip was canceled last July.

According to Sean McCormack, State Department spokesman, Rice is expected in Addis Ababa Wednesday, where she will meet Ethiopian officials on counter terrorism issues.

The Secretary of State will also attend a meeting of leaders from the African Great Lakes region - Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

During her two-day visit, Rice will also discuss Somalia and Sudan with African Union members, the United Nations and east African ministers, according to McCormack.
