African and Central African champion, 10 times national female table tennis, bronze medallist at US Open, Fomum Victorine who emerged female champion again this year over the week end during the cup of table tennis final has decried the dwindling level of the table tennis.
She was speaking to the press shortly after beating her opponent, Ngnikeu, 3 sets to 1 at the Brassieres Club on November 25. Fomum who doubles as coach maintained that the level of tennis which had ameliorated during past three years is currently witnessing a nose dive with no promising future for the players.
This situation she attributed to the absence of motivation, players find nothing worth training for with officials sometimes dragging their feet when it comes to competitions they are not involved. Lamenting that tennis equipments are rare and thus expensive, she urged the federation to increase the amount for participation in competitions in order to enable players purchase them.
She said the only consolation is that due to her hard work, she is able to participate in international competitions which are not the case for everybody. In order to maintain her performance training has been her watch word and being on the reserve bench for the Olympic Games in table tennis, she has to train to avoid being surprised when she is called up. Given that there is a time frame for candidates to declare their participation, as the first on the reserve bench, her hopes of participating in the Olympic Games are high.
