East Africa: Interim Trade Deal 'Saves' Region's European Market Access

Nairobi — The East African Community last week signed an interim Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union giving full EU market access to products from the five countries in the region.

With hopes of concluding a full and comprehensive trade agreement between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries by December 31 looking slim, the interim EPA offers a life-line to exports from East Africa, which will continue to enjoy duty and quota free access to EU markets without any disruption.
