Eritrea: Eritrean Community in Milan And Environs Holds Annual Congress

The Eritrean Community in Milan and its environs, Italy, held its annual congress on December 2. The chairman of the Community, Mr. Ermias Ghide, noted the significant activities of the Community in the economic, social and cultural life of nationals, as well as in organizing citizens and reinforcing national unity.
Following discussions on a two-year work report on the accomplishments of the Community, the participants lauded the effective and positive outcome of mother tongue language lessons that were offered to Eritrean children in Milan since 2005. They also stressed the need to continue such lessons. Moreover, the participants unanimously re-elected a 7-member Executive Committee for the next two years in view of its dedication and commitment in handling the Community's affairs.
It is to be recalled that more than 1,000 Eritrean citizens in Milan, Bologna and its environs held a public meeting earlier, during which they expressed resolve to meet any eventuality.
The Eritrean Community in Milan, that includes veteran Eritrean mothers in the city, is one of the major Eritrean communities abroad which has been playing a leading role since the days of the armed struggle.
In a related report, community heads of the NUEW branch in Italy held a meeting in Rome on December 1. In the meeting that was attended by representatives of the Union from different Italian cities, the participants reaffirmed their readiness to back up national programs.
The head of public and community affairs in the Eritrean Embassy to Italy, Mrs. Semainesh Kiros, called on Eritrean women to be ready to meet any eventuality.

The Eritrean Ambassador to Italy, Mr. Zemede Tekle, also gave briefings to the participants of the meeting on the objective situation in the Homeland and the significant role that the Eritrean women in Italy are playing.
