Namibia: Global Recognition for Poly

6 December 2007

Windhoek — The Polytechnic of Namibia recently won the Cisco Networking Academy's Global Recognition Award, it was announced in a press release.

The congratulatory message from the Recognition programme reads in part, "You were selected as a winner in our Networking Academy Global Recognition Award Program. We appreciate your dedication to excellence and want to honour you for your contribution to the program and the community".

The Cisco Academy Initiative is part of the Cisco Systems Corporation's responsibility to provide networking skills in partnership with educational institutions and other education partners.

Among its various programmes offered are the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA), which is the entry level qualification for candidates wishing to establish a networking career, the Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), and the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) - the coveted apex of Cisco's Academy initiative.

Cisco is the world leader in networking technology. About 80% of all devices carrying Internet traffic are Cisco products.

The Global Recognition Award is prestigious for the Polytechnic, its graduates and industry partners as it recognizes the Polytechnic as a dynamic university offering up-to-date technological standards of Cisco, the statement says.

The Polytechnic established the Cisco Academy in 2000, which has been graduating a large number of Cisco graduates and instructors, mostly under the industry certification programme for CCNA and CCNP.

The academy works closely with more than 50% of Namibian industry leaders in order to prepare candidates for a highly professional industry certification which is recognised worldwide. A minimum of an 85% pass mark is required to obtain the certification.

Also, the Polytechnic has the title of Regional Academy, thus it is responsible to ensure quality standards throughout Namibia for Cisco education.

A local Academy was established at the University of Namibia, Department of Computing, under the Polytechnic of Namibia's Regional Academy.
