Uganda: India Donates Sh440m to Flood Victims

Kampala — THE Indian government has donated $252,525 (about sh440m) to flood victims in northern and eastern Uganda, reports Andrew Ssenyonga.

The Indian High Commissioner, Niraj Srivastava, handed over the cheque to the Uganda Red Cross Society chairman, Tom Buruku, during a function at his residence in Kampala on Tuesday.

"It is important for everyone to have a comfortable life. We, Indians, want to show our care and love to the people affected by the floods," Srivastava said.

He said the Indian community in Uganda would continue to support Ugandans.

Buruku commended India for the aid. "Floods have receded and people have resettled. We want to give them seeds to go back to their farms because their gardens were swept away by torrential rains."

He urged humanitarian organisations and the Government to give more aid to the flood victims.
