Harare — AS preparations for the Harare International Festival of the Arts begin, organisers are inviting artists to participate in postcard exhibition and auction.
The postcards to be made by artists for Hifa will be numbered and exhibited as part of a huge collage of postcards during the festival that runs from 29th April to 4th May next year.
The 2008 theme is Art on Purpose.
Bidders will have a list of the participating artists but will not know who created the piece until after the auction when they get to see the signature and a message from the artist on the back. There is no hard and fast theme to follow but anything that represents creativity will do.
The work can be illustrated, painted, photographed, printed and on any medium within the standard postcard format of approx. 4 x 6 inches or 100mm x 148mm.
The proceeds from the exhibition go towards helping Gallery Delta, an important Zimbabwean institution that supports and nurtures up and coming visual artists, the Zimbabwe College of Music for purchasing instruments, Theory X for their theatre training initiative and Tumbuka Dance Company and the Dance Foundation Course for their training initiative
Send your created postcards to Hifa Postcards, P.O. Box A42 Avondale, Harare before February 29th.
Postcards should be signed at the back with a short message from the artist and sent in a reinforced envelope.
The postcards will be collected and arranged for display during the festival and on the website www.hifa.co.zw, after which a silent auction will be held by email.
