Kano — A pro-democracy group, Forward Nigeria (FN) has identified poor welfare package and inadequate equipment as the factors affecting the performance of the Nigeria Police Force.
The group which has been on the vanguard of improvement in the force charged the federal government to without further delay, take drastic actions of reviewing upward, the welfare package of officers and men of the force and providing the Police with modern equipment to enable them adequately face the challenges of present day policing.
In a statement signed by FN national president, Chief Chris McGil and secretary, Henry Nze, made available to Daily Champion in Kano, FN maintained that to pave way for the "New Nigeria" and in the spirit of the sustenance of the President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's reform agenda, "the federal government ought to take steps to reposition the Police Force because without it being reformed, the issue of insecurity will continue to stare us in the face," he noted.
The statement decried long years of neglect of the FN by successive governments and insisted that it is high time radical reforms took place in the Force, "by providing it with sufficient arms and ammunitions, communication gadgets and enough manpower."
FN noted further that, "in countries like the Britain and the USA, the Police there are adequately taken care of. They have attractive welfare package, they have enough equipment, they receive training and retraining from time to time; and that is why you see them do their job diligently."
