Asmara

A meeting of the High-level Joint Military and Security Committee of Eritrea, Sudan, Libya and Chad is underway here in Asmara.

The meeting held in-depth assessment of the experience acquired over the past three months, future programs, the challenges being encountered in the implementation of the Tripoli Agreement and ways of overcoming them, as well as the scope of participation of member states.

Commending the role which Eritrea and Libya played in normalizing Chadian-Sudanese relations, the participating of meeting expressed appreciation to President Isaias' efforts, in the course of his stay in Portugal, to ease the situation recently created along the Sudanese-Chadian border.

Moreover, the participants called for an early meeting of the High-level Joint Political Committee and the High-level Joint Military and Security Committee with a view to providing additional impetus to the implementation of the Tripoli Agreement.

In line with the initiative taken by the leaders of Eritrea, Libya, Sudan and Chad during their meeting on February 2006 in Tripoli aimed at promoting peace, stability and good-neighborliness between Chad and Sudan, meetings have been taking place to implement the Tripoli Agreement. The current meeting of the High-level Joint Military and Security Committee in Asmara is a continuation of that.
