Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki returned home last night after attending the 2nd Conference of the African countries and the European Union in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from December 8 to 9.
Alongside the Conference, President Isaias held separate meetings on December 8 with President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir of Sudan and President Idris Debi of Chad on issues of mutual concern.
Moreover, the President held talks with Mr. Luis Michel, Commissioner for Development in the European Union on December 7, during which the two sides assessed the exiting economic cooperation between Eritrea and the EU. Mr. Luis Michel said that the EU would enhance cooperation with Eritrea.
Over 70 leaders of African countries and the European Union, as well as other representatives participated in the conference in which deliberations were conducted focusing on partnership between the two continents.
